Rehab is for Quitters

I'm sick today, so not much to say.

Just want to say that I've noticed a bit of a backlash against Rehab in the popular culture. Things like this song:

(scroll down and click on the Amy Winehouse link).
Now, I'm in the medical profession, and I see way too much of what a diet of toxins can do to bodies and families, but I think this is funny, and it cheers me up.
That's wrong, isn't it?

Interesting! How about Isaac Hayes’ Walk on By?

The issue with rehab is that it only really works if the rehabbee wants it. That song by Winehouse is great.

Plus, there is something about the fact that every celebrity who gets pulled over on a DUI runs into Rehab, from whence they emerge reborn and washed clean in the blood of the Lamb. I'm sure the Managers and Agents all have the Artists best interests in mind, but it has become something of a marketing formula.
I guess Amy Winehouse has a rep of showing up drunk to gigs, so her record company laid down the law, so she quit that company and wrote a hit song about it!
She's about the same age as Brittany Spears, but seems a little more authentic and self-possesed.

Dear Zulhai: You’re absolutely right about "300", the movie. I agree with you 100%. If you want to hear my true feelings, read my THREE comments on this side: Hollywood Propaganda Even my initial feeling was against that kind of reaction and I went and saw it so I can access it for myself.

I’m sorry I didn’t know or watch South Park. I bet that was a great episode. Again, I agree with you.

And, as far as gym goes, I know exactly what you mean. I really try hard. I’ve tried many other options before, but this works best for me. I can read a book on a couple of the machines just to fight the boredom and the swimming, I just enjoy it. I only do this 3 times a week.

Happy Norooz! Do you celebrate it?

Happy NoRooz to you also! There is no Iranian community here, or even one Iranian, as far as I can tell. There are more and more Iraquis, however. There are all these little businesses starting up all over town, catering mainly to the Mexican community.
Your link was very interesting. Something about these young guys who take themselves SO seriously is just charming. You know everyone of them is going to see that movie, then lie about it!

BTW, here is an article on the subject of 300 in Iranian.com.
http://www.iranian.com/Shorts/2007/march2007.html#18
The author is Siamak Baniemeri (sp?). He thinks that the Iranian community should protest the movie by leaving their BMW's in the garage, saddle up the beasts, put on the traditional S&M gear of ancient Persia and attack the theaters.

That's funny, I guess, but he was also talking about a film maker's project who's making a movie about the Persian empire or Cyrus the great ro something.

I thought your kids are half-persian. That's why I asked whether you celebrate Nowrooz or not. What city is that?

I hope you're feeling better. (But I am going to assume that you are, since it's now four days after this post. Even though assuming, well, you know.)

So...um...I tagged you with the "Real Moms" meme. Please feel free to ignore the tag completely. I just thought it might be interesting to get your take on this particular meme.
